Default Machinery Surface Rust in the Shed

I had heaps of Machinery Surface Rust in the Shed [under the house] after the rain & consistance wet weather of the beginning of the year.
For the most I was just putting up with it on the tables of the bandsaw, the bobbin sander & the drill press.
About 2 months ago I read an article in the router forum on a similar issue; the resolve was a Trend product called "Tool & Bit Cleaner" in the USA costing only US$12.00 a bottle.
I did some searching & found it came from Trend UK.
After an email to there "customer service" staff, I found that a local Melbourne company was the Australian agent/importer.
I then contacted them to order a bottle; A$35.00 plus A$15.00 delivery [bugger/ouch].
    I HOPE THE STUFF WORKS!!!!!
The following are a series of photos; before & after and it seems to have made a difference.
I have since added a "new fence" to my old bandsaw to faciliate "resawing" of materials for "toymaking" and hopefully "boxmaking" down the track.
I must "THANK" a forum mate for his assist in sourcing the new bandsaw fence.
    Cheers, crowie

Pete, living near the sea, I was having surface rust problems too. After cleaning it off, I used SilverGlide Dry Slip, from Carba-Tec, to protect the surfaces and have had no problems since. It leaves a very low friction surface, too, and everything slides well.

My rust wasn't very bad, just starting, so I got it off OK with a nylon scouring pad.

    Hello Crowie,
I have had simiilar problem with an outdoors shed under the house. I used camelia oil with a scourer to clean it up and then as with Hermit I used the silver glide. Good as gold since. I think that siliver glide is a real good product - x Carbatec. Drillit.

To get rid of the rust in the first place depends on how bad it is.

There are a number of rust removers in the paint aisle at the hardware... pick one that is water based.

The water based ones don't try to convert the rust to plastic or leave a hard coating.

You can brush or spray it on, wait for it to work. (may take some hours)

Then dust it off & treat it with something like TRADITIONAL WAX to stop the rust from coming back.

    Works for me.

If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

I used a brass wire brush in my drill and gently buffed the surface rust away.I then applied some meled beeswax sparingly and then buffed it with a piece of cordura until it remelted and coated the steel. I have had no more problems despite the fact that I have yet to replace the old holey fibreglass panels in the shed roof. Afterwards it dawned on me that it may have been easier to dissolve the wax in some turpentine and then apply that.
