Makita Blade Replacement
Can anyone recomend a replacement blade for a Makita sliding compound mitre saw that is as good or better than the original Makita? I have used a fair few SCMS saws and in my mind the standard Makita blade runs rings around the standard blades on others such as Dewalt and Bosch. I was going to get my blade sharpened but I have managed to knock a tooth (not just the tip) off so am looking to replace it.
I have not priced Makita blades as yet but am guessing that there are other brand 60 tooth blades around that are probably comparable for a cheaper price. I mainly use it for hardwood.
Cheers,
Mike

I wouldn't worry about a single tooth, just get it sharpened and you will probably find no noticable difference in the performance. The guy that sharpens all my blades suggested this with a couple of mine and I can't tell the difference.

I would have though another reason for replacement would be the vibe it would set up if it was missing, maybe not that obvious but I wonder if it would affect bearings over the long term.

hi mike, i reckon the makita blades are very good also.
i recommend an irwin blade, and if you are cutting hardwood, you should try using a 100 tooth blade.

Thanks Justin, do you reckon the 100 tooth Irwin cuts as well as the original Mak blade? Irwin are usually pretty reasonably priced, use them on my circular saws but they are only used for carpentry so cut is not such a concern as blade price.

as said above you won't notice one tooth missing neither will the machine, if it is vibrating I would look for another cause, the blade may be warped, but this can be fixed when sharpend

the irwin blades would be just as good as the makitas. i dont think they are better.
i use mine for general carpentry fixout and they give a great finish.
my 10 inch irwin 100 tooth blades cost about $110 from bunnings.
i pay $16 to get them sharpened every month.
regards, justin.

It isn't vibrating but needs a sharpen and although I have not got a price from a saw doctor yet (awaiting advice on the best doctor for my Lucas blades in WA) I figured it may be time to get a new one seeing this one was damaged. If it is only $16 as Justin's saw doctor charges I will get it done anyway and use it for docking rough sawn boards.
I have a few hundred bucks worth of stuff to get done - jointer knives, thicknesser knives, two handsaws, SCMS and two Lucas blades to retip so just doing my homework at the moment. I have used Hughans in the past for knives and they did a great job but want to try out whoever is the Lucas recommended doctor here to make sure my Lucas blades are right.
