    Default Mitre saw recommendation

    Hi all,

I have come for a bit of advice. I am in need of a new mitre saw. Now I assume I may have the wrong terminology but I know it as a sliding miter saw.

I have had an aldi one for a few years now and the thing gave good service for all the abuse it had .

My criteria at the moment is
-cost new bub just arrived and the less I spend the happy the wife will be.

    - ready access to new blades, and blade types . Some times I need work with a different material .

    - ease of use, having to set the blade alignment or angle up each time I use it can be pain.

Happy to buy second hand if anyone can point me In the direction of what models to look for .

I did some googling but often the reviews are old or models not available in Australia. Plus paid reviews are everywhere these days :/.

I know on the cheaper end you dont get the best ,if I had the cash I would be happy to spend it however some times one has to make do with what he has.

    Regards
    Daniel

No matter what you buy all power miter saws must be calibrated in both axes. I have never seen one out of the box that cuts to the indicated angles without adjustment. Depending on how you use it you must also check and adjust at least a couple of times per year particularly if you move it around much at all.
Innovations are those useful things that, by dint of chance, manage to survive the stupidity and destructive tendencies inherent in human nature.

Have a search on this forum and there is a thread on a no name brand ( can’t recall the name lol) that a number of members seem happy with.
Look for one that has nice solid slide rails, some of the cheaper ones are a bit light, a good quality blade has a lot to do with how accurate a saw cuts as well

I think the one you are referring to is the Schwartz (not sure if spelling is correct) . It is available from Timbecon or direct.

As Beardy has noted, and Chesand has corroborated, there's fairly extensive coverage of the Swarts Sliding Mitre Saw in the Product Reviews section on these forums here: Swarts tools 305mm 12" sliding compound mitre saw drop saw

In the interests of complete transparency, I do not own one, but I see this thread get bumped fairly regularly with happy purchasers.

I've not had any problems with my Makita.
