MT3 drill in an MT2 spindle via adaptor
Anyone using MT3 drill bits in a MT2 drill press?
Any issues?
Considering buying a MT2 male to MT3 female adapter to enable me to use my MT3 drills in my drill press, therefore letting me sell my other drill press, which frees up some floor space. Largest MT3 drill bit I have is 1n1/16".
thanks
Frank

11/16" would be a bit of a load for a MT2 taper to my mind, plus it is going to be hanging about 5inches lower due to the adaptor, so has a lot of leverage to work the adaptor loose in the MT2 socket in the spindle.
If space is the primary consideration sell the MT 2 drill and keep the MT3, as you have the bits for it, so presumably the use as well.
My post inflation 2c worth.

Yes it would make sense to sell the MT2 drill press and keep the other unit (MT4 spindle), but it's made in china and doesn't compare rigidity wise to the other ancient made in Oz MT2 unit. I think I'm going to have to keep them both.
The rest of the story is that the MT4 unit is single phase and I was planning on buying a VSD and putting it on the MT2 unit (which is three phase), cause I detest changing belts.
