Default Noisy carbatech planer even when not cutting..

    Hi all,
i am wondering why the planer /thicknesser (12 1/2 inch) is so noisy even when not cutting. Any maintenance adjustments possible to change this?
I have been looking at the helical upgrade but not much point if the unit is noisy anyway.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

No model or age info provided, but if its mechanically noisy when not cutting then it most likely has at least one faulty bearing in the cutter head support, motor, or whatever drive train it uses for feeding in thicknesser mode.
I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

I've got their jointer thicknesser and the whole drive chain assembly is held on with one bolt, Always comes lose and all the pulleys rub on the side of the case making a hell of a racket. Need to strip and tighten it all up after 2 or 3 hrs use.

Thanks guys...the unit isn't that old (CT317) ..maybe a year but has seen some heavyish work on some oregon. I can't wait to strip it down and check out the suggestions. It makes sense that something has worked loose.

    Cheers
