Hi Lewisc, with apologies, I cannot comment on the unit in use, as mine is still unused, though I've opened it up to take a look at it. If a machine's quality can be judged by weight (it can, IMO, to a small degree), the Jet doesn't disappoint - it truly feels (and looks) like a piece of kit built to do the job it's supposed to do.

Will it run all day every day 8x5? It looks like it, yes. But that's all I can judge for you - looks.

I have to apologise as well. I haven't even opened mine yet. Though I suspect the larger floor standing machine would be a more durable and better bet for school/commercial use. Probably better dust collection also.

    Cheers, Dom

Thanks guys. I just put the order through for the big one. The smaller one probably would be ok but they are high school kids so there's that to consider. Jet seems to be a solid brand so it should last well into the future.

You do get a few extra features with the floor stand sander. Providing it is the same as that shown on the US Jet website it comes with up to 4" spindles compared to 2" on the benchtop model and also has a spindle lock so you don't have to fiddle around with 2 spanners under the table to change spindles. It also comes with a 4" dust port compared to 2".
So all up I think it is a better option in a school environment. I have the benchtop model but it would be nice to have the floor standing one with the larger spindles.
