Default Radial Drill Press - Bench Model.

Hi. My family have presented me with a radial drill press - surprise present. I must use it but my problem is that I operate out of the garage - have to move the two cars in and out. This drill press is a problem for both storage and use, it seems to be easily unbalanced and needs to be securely positioned.

Question - Can it readily (safely) be fitted to a movable trolley type bench unit? Any ideas appreciated.

In a word - yes. Now for a lot of words....

Take a look at the Jet site, there are some of their bench model drill presses on stands. There are also a few plan sites with pictures of accessory drill stands that you can build - if you can't figure out how to make a box out of ply and 1x stock, you will be in trouble woodworking Remember to allow for the height of the casters, and get ones that lock both rolling & rotation actions.

Bolt the drill to the stand, then get a big chain & padlock to secure the whole thing to the building, so no light fingered @%$^ can wheel it off into the night.

Here a site or two to get you started. Google is your friend'
