Thread: Recommendations for a spindle sander?

I had the Triton machine for a while. I ultimately reached a point where I was working more by hand with rasps, so I sold it.

Nonetheless, it certainly did the job for which I bought it. I didn't use it for any kind of serious, tedious shaping. I mostly used it to put curved edges on chopping boards and shape some odds and ends here and there.

The dust collection was great, and I never bogged the machine down.

I'm not sure what you want to do with it, but, based on my experience with it, I think it's a good machine.

Did you ever find the lighter weight of the machine to be an issue?

I'm mainly needing it to clean up lots of bandsaw cuts. I have a belt and disc sander which cover most of my straight edges and outside curves, its the inside curves (of which I have a lot!) that give me issues.

I tried a a drill mount spindle in my drillpress, but the drill shank doesnt handle lateral pressure very well

I never had an issue with the weight. I don't know why you'd ever be pushing against the spindle so hard it would slide around the bench, if that's your worry. If you were doing anything which could result in that kind of thing, then I would be worried about bending the spindle.

What is your concern with regards to the weight? Has it been reviewed negatively for that?

Mainly vibration and movement. I dont intend to put much pressure.

I didn't have that problem and mine was sitting on an extremely flimsy, plastic table. It was always solid and I always felt totally in control.
