    Default replace the old

My 25 year old planer/thicknesser needs replacing.I like the Hammer a3/31 or is the A3/41 worth the extra money? The Powermatic 15HH looks impressive with a seperate jointer Powermatic (with blades) or carbatec with helical head.(similar price) Are seperate machines worth the extra money? Anyone experience with Powermatic,Hammer,MiniMaxi? Is Powermatic just a Jet with a different color? I am also going to replace my old 14" bandsaw with a Hammer N4400 or a Jet 18" or 20". I am a self-funded retiree with a big workshop but in say 5 years time I might have to move to a smaller place. Any thoughts, opinion, experience, advice!

I've got the Hammer C3-31, and I find it a great bit of machinery. But, I've heard that the helical cutters are much quieter, give a better cut and are good value for the extra money. I'll be sticking with my set up because it already exceeds my abilities.
