I've had this machine now for about 2years. Given it a damn good work out too. It is quite OK for small stuff. I mainly use mine for squaring up the ends of pen making blanks, or doing other small stuff. If you push it too far, the motor will slow down to a crawl, and the sanding belt will slip. I have it connected up to my shop vac, so minimum dust is experienced. There are several generic brands that are identical to this unit, all have just been re-badged ha ha.
I never forget anything I remember !!

Peter if its just a disc sander why not make a face plate sander for your lathe and a bench to fit to the lathe. I did this for my Jet mini way back to obtain 8" sander still have it although not used it since buying the Aldi one.

Peter I can tell you I bought the Sheppac at the sale
this is in comparison to the ALDI one I had (fell of the bench and bent the shaft.)
Pro's
sturdy construction, heavy
Belt easy to change (Aldi one is pull everything off guards etc)
solid alloy slide/mitre table
soldi belt guide and table
alloy belt sander wheels not plastic like Aldis
quieter than the Aldi.
Major Pro back service is there
Con's
belt sander bolts for adjustment of angle from horizontal to verticle only two choices.
(but I have a solution to make it work)
Mitre guage cheap as the Aldi one.

Whilst the Woodfast is a nice machine and most people seem to be happy with it, I think you find it is imported like everything else sold by Woodfast these days. Like so many other "Aussie" brands, Woodfast is purely an importer these days no local manufacturing at all.

G'day Crowie , What did you decide on with the sander ?
I see the Hare and Forbes sale is coming up again and I am considering one of these machines and any feedback would be helpful

G'Day "snapper",
I bought the bigger one [L-69A - Belt & Disc Linisher Sander (240V) 150 x 1220mm Belt 230mm Disc] through one of the forum member and well worth it, even if I'd had to purchase it new the bigger one is the way I'd go sir. I hope that's some assistance even though I've just suggested you spend nearly $200 more. Cheers, crowie.

I agree completely. It is perfectly fine but nothing special.
I picked mine up second hand and it had only been used a couple of times so was as new.
I do a lot of metal linnishing with mine as well as wood sanding and it works exactly as expected. I do not push mine too hard and it works OK.
