    Default SCMS Again, Which one????????

    Hi All,
I have been trying to decide which SCMS my kids would like to buy me for Christmas.
Although I haven't seen one in the flesh, I rather like the features and capacity of the Metabo KGS 315 Plus, (not to mention that most of the Metabo tools that I have ever bought, can still be found, in working condition, somewhere in my workshop)
It needs to cut 100-110mm and be accurate.
After trying to find some reviews, apart from the shops selling them, I have come to the conclusion that no one seems to own one.
Has anyone out there got one???????
Or had their hands on one??????
At the present I have a 10yr old Ryobi, and sure, after changing blades it still cuts ok, but not super accurate. And as I said before Christmas is coming.

    Thanks All
    Slim

I was looking at this saw also, and couldn't find any real reviews - as you have seen in the other thread I went with new Bosch .

You'd expect from top of the range Metabo saw to be accurate. But pretty much anything from with that price be quite good. Check if the kids will be happy to buy you a kapex Apparently it is supposed to be the best out there, especially with dust collection.

The Bosch seems to be on par with the Kapex at a lower price. Mind you it is made in China and I think the Kapex is made in Europe but I have never checked.

I have just about talked myself into buying the Metabo, although I did send them (Metabo) an email asking,' where the KGS 315Plus, is made. They seem to be taking a long time to reply. Which probably means, Made in China.
As for the 'Kids buying it for Christmas.' They will probably end up borrowing the money from me, and you all know what happens then !!!!
So far I've got a couple of prices both about $1300.
By the way Ilya How much was the Bosch? and what depth is the cut?

Slim, The Cutting capacity at 0° is 104 x 341 mm. More details on Bosch web page - GCM 12 GDL Professional Mitre saw Benchtop Tools | Bosch power tools for professionals

There is also plenty of review videos on youtube, so I was well familiar with the saw before it arrived I also liked how it is calibrated, and cuts true out of the box.

I paid $1080 delivered from sydneytools, with 2 extra blades. You need to call them to get this price ($1050+30 delivery)

The big thing with the Bosch is no rails to cause deflection or sticking and also it can be flush fitted against a wall. Seeing as the price is cheaper I think it is no contest but then at $1300 you can buy the lower end festool Kapex which up until now was regarded as the creme de la creme. Have a look at youtube for videos.

Does the Bosch GCM 12 GDL Professional Mitre saw have a locking mechanism for trenching cuts etc.The demo on youtube doesn't show.
The saw looks pretty good though

Another SCMS to consider is the makita 12". I have the LS1214 and it's very accurate.

Agree, top of the range Makitas are good, and they still made in Japan, and they are good quality tools. My Bosch is made in China, but the quality is superb, I wouldn't distinguish it from European made tool. (Actually my German made Makita chainsaw looks cheaper!)

Slim, I think you should get Metabo and write a good review about it Otherwise, if you want to save some space in the workshop, and have two laser lines along the cut, and super-smooth gliding control - go with Bosch Kapex is above all this.

Well, after virtually deciding on the Metabo KGS 315 Plus, I have given up on them for a couple of reasons.
Trying to get any info from them was impossible, they could not or would not, tell me where it was made. Two of the quotes I received from different suppliers were for the wrong model.
I was told ,Oh don't worry they're all similar???
Then I tried to buy the saw and a mobile saw stand (It is advertised) and this seemed to completely confuse them to the extent that no one has returned my calls.
Sorry Metabo, but perhaps you think that you don't need my little bit of business, and I suspect that all of your agents don't get enough commission from you to worry about selling your products. Anyway I'm over it. Goodbye Metabo!
I still don't have a saw, but I have seen a Milwaukee MS 305 DB 12, + Work stand + Dust collector for $1199 inc GST. It seems reasonably priced.
It has work lights but doesn't have a Laser. Someone said the laser is not so useful??
but not having one, I wouldn't know.
I have to decide soon as my kids are worried about not getting their present to me before Christmas (as they say, Yeh right!)

I don't know, I like laser for quick alignment, and then lower the blade if I need accuracy better than say 0.5mm.

I just bought the Bosch GCM 12 GDL on the weekend and really like it so far. I like the laser as it is good for alignment when cutting things longer than the maximum sliding distance, slabs and wide boards etc, cut/flip/cut. The laser is only aligned to the left side of the blade and cannot be adjusted. It wasn't square out of the box but it only took a minute to adjust it to square.
