Scored a ryobi compound miter saw!
Hi all, I usually hang round in the welding forum, but I thought i'd post it here.
I dumpster dove a compound miter saw from a construction site near where I work last night.
It looked complete, and i grabbed it and gave it a quick test, it fired up, so I loaded it into the car and took it home.
upon testing it, I noticed it was sparking and the motor was stuttering a bit, so i pulled the brushes, and they were worn.
Calling the local authorized dealer, I got the word from them that parts aren't available for this saw, as it is a few years old. I thought it was a bit silly, as brushes are basically the one consumable on the machine, and most junk cheap tools I've bought come with a spair.
I guess I shouldn't complain too much as thats probably what the guy who chucked it got told.
So off to ebay this morning, I managed to order a bunch that should be the right size. I was expecting to have to get bigger ones and file them down to fit, so was extra happy when i found the right sized ones! I think i get 8 brushes for about $4 au. I don't think It will make it thru those especially with the use I'll give it. lol
now just to wait to get the new brushes, and I should have a nice working miter saw. I'm sure it will come in handy occasionally, even though I don't really make a lot of things with wood. Now when I do though, it will be easier to get nice straight cuts! it will beat my hand sawing hands down!

Nice to have a win occasionally isn't it
It is amazing really what a difference Ebay has made to getting things which local suppliers won't stock or their slack-jawed sullen staff have never heard of.
I was recently chasing what ought to be a common fitting that none of the local businesses had and got it painlessly and cheaply from Canada of all places - couldn't do that easily before the internet age

ebay is rather handy for these things.
I got the brushes after about a week, and they fitted in perfectly, no messing about at all!
The saw works perfectly, and i suspect I wont get through even one set of brushes in my lifetime, and I'd put money on it not surviving four sets anyway!
