Default Seeking: Lathe Chuck - GMC ML-1000

    Hi all,

New to the forum, and excited that it seems really active and friendly.

I have finally (5 years after getting it), gotten around to finding the time to setup my GMC ML-1000 lathe. It is a long story.

OK, I have updated and found it is a 3/4 UNF thread. So a basic backplate or chuck, or recommendations for find one for the purpose.

I am after a 4 jaw chuck and back plates to suit, or advice of where I can start looking. Happy to buy for a reasonable price.

    Anyone able to help please?

    Cheers )

Try putting this in the Woodturning forum as well. You might have more luck there. https://www.woodworkforums.com/f8

    Default Thanks

Treecycle, many thanks for the thought. I wasn't 100% sure of the best location, thinking this would be ideal.

The good news is today, I scored a 6" 4-way chuck for $45 in total, so waiting for it to arrive.

I had to work out the screw/shaft size (was originally told (emphatically is the only way to describe it) that it was metric and /14mm (thread?). I headed to another business I know and through some trial and error, he also said it was metric. I wasn't impressed by the "sloppiness" when screwed on. I suggested we try an Imperial thread and viola, 3/4 and 16 TPI, first thread I tried.

I then found the chuck on Ebay. I am still after a faceplate, so will try Ebay again, if not here.

Many, many thinks to all who read and helped.

    Cheers
