    Hi Dengy,

I have an old 6" version of your machine and recently had my blades sharpened and then installed them and set them. So I can feel your pain.

I levelled the blades to the outfeed table using a magnet method I found somewhere on Fine Woodworking website. I couldn't believe it when the blades moved when i tightened the jib. I messed around for a while to get it as good as I could and then realised i was going to go insane.

In the end I settled for what was less than "perfect" but when I applied the reality test the timber was "perfectly" square, meaning I couldn't see daylight with my engineers square against the wood.

Feeler gauges and vernier calipers are great but don't let them drive you crazy.

another great element to round out this great thread - reality. If it aint broke dont fix it!

All my machinery was pretty well all spot on - until the day I came home with the dial gauge...

A resource I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to set up his machinery as well as possible is a book - "Care and Repair of Shop Machines" by John White. Copies are readily available onlne, google it. I have no association with the book other than being a very happy reader who is very happy with the value for money. Here is the details and the list of contents: -

    Cheers

Hi Doug, just came across the preview pages of this book here.

The link opens on the section of the Jointer chapter where he is making a full length master rule to check how level the tables are
    regards,

    Dengy

    Nice find Dengue

Actually I just went to Taunton's store, search for the title and it is available as a download to $7 on a half price special. I paid full price when I got my copy. of course thats $7 US. The exchange rate was the other way around when I bought mine so I did alright I guess.
