    Thumbs down Sheppach HF50 warning

I have one of these Sheppach HF50 which I have decided to not use again. Most difficult to put together since the pictures in the manual are unclean and no instruction which screw goes where. The fingered timber guides did not rate mention in the instructions. The safety switch had the red bit fall off and the fence was not straight and flimsy. Corrected these issues and did some decent routing. Then one day the spindle lock would not disengage. Rang Hare Forbes no help. Pulled the would machine apart found the problem. The lock is poorly made so that it jumps the flats and jams. Broke the lock doing this so then used two spanners. Did some more routing and then it grabed. Threw the piece across the work shop. The fence does not adequately tighten and it had moved. Not noticing this I started on the next piece which was then totally wrecked and was quite dangerous.

I am finished with it and will not use it again. The basic machine is sound but the fence, spindle lock and switch all need to be replaced. I advise strongly against it.

BTW there is another thread and I tried to add to it but the instructions do not make sense. I tried about five times.

    H,

You don't say when you purchased the unit or how old it is, BUT under Australian consumer law any consumer item must perform as expected, it must function in a safe manner and it must have a reasonable life expectancy. You should make a formal complaint to fair trading. The booklet on the link below sets out your rights.

When did you take delivery of this unit?
Curious to see if it is one of the "new shipment will have all problems fixed" as mentioned in the other post.

If it is from the new shipment then H&F have a real problem with this unit.
The Scheppach Chinese made stuff is lacking quality control.
I returned a Scheppach band saw after unpacking it without even switching it on.

I must have purchased it in the last during the last 12 months. It cost about $300 and I have managed some work with it. If I claim which is possible then I will have to I expect convince the dealer it is a valiable claim. Then detail the faults dissasemble it get packing material and ship it back from Canberra. This all takes time and is an absolute pain. At the end of this they can just replace the damn thing and you know where they could put that. Frankly this a path of angst I do not want to go through. If I could just throw it at the guilty then that would be good for the sole.

As for it being from the old batch or not how does one tell. I would be happy if someone wants it free for parts or something, an anchor comes to mind.

I expect that would be one from the older stock.
My advise is that it is the stock just received that is supposedly OK

These things are a complete waste of money.

I have had the same problem with the spindle lock but I did manage to get it going again. I have not used mine in over 6 months. I have spoken to H&F a number of times. They have been no help at all. I will never buy another Sheppach product and I would give the same advice to anyone else.

The first time my jammed I did also. The second time it jumped the flats on the shaft so badly and not knowing this meant breaking it get it free. I would advise now turning the shaft with a large spanner might free it. Agreed about H&F no help no idea.
