Shopvac dying - reco motor?
Have an old shopvac Ive used for maybe 15 years and the motor is running slowly and and putting out that expensive burning metal smell.
Anyone you might know/recommend who reco's this class of electric motor in the south eastern end of Melbourne? anywhere Moorabin down to Frankston Dandenong or in fact anywhere?
Used to be heaps of blokes around but not so much anymor
Its a 1300 watt unit with a 50mm hose - it sucks like a demon - such a great machine I used for dust extraction as well on some machines -
I bought a new Kinchrome 1250 watter and its pretty much a toy compared to it.
Thanks for any and all suggestionsray c
dunno what's more fun, buyin' the tools or usin' em'

I would be very surprised if you found someone who would do it and the cost would outway the purchase price of a new one.
I have used 2 Sthil vacuum cleaners for 25 years for site work and both are still going strong, one of them I regularly use for cleaning out pier holes before pouring concreteThe person who never made a mistake never made anything
Cheers

The only feasible option would be to replace the motor as said above rewinding would cost three times the price of a shopvac, try someone like this mob Vacuum Cleaner Motors | Buy Vacuum Motors Online, you will be looking at $1-200

You might be lucky but not always, but I would guess that after 15 years it could just be worn out brushes. The average electrician should be able to give you a quick diagnosis.

I got a replacement motor for an old Festo (before they became Festool) shop vac for $80 from these guys Vacuum Cleaner Products- Bags- Filters- Hoses - repairs- Ducted vacuums Vac City
If you google <the vac model number > replacement motor you might find someone selling replacements. Changing it should just be a handful of screws and 2 spade connectors, maybe 20 mins.
