Need help with two electrical issues - wiring a switch and adding variable speed

Hi there, new to the forum so hopefully this is the right place to ask - if not, please (gently) show me the correct path...!

I have a Carbatec MC1100 with a simple on/off switch of the type you find on most non-variable speed lathes (or to be more specific, non electrically variable speed lathes). Took the thing apart to clean out the headstock and pulled out the two blue wires. Now, tried to find the answer on Google, but not confident enough to stick them back and start her up - just not sure what damage I could cause if I was wrong.
Attached is a picture - the back of the switch. The blue and brown wires goes into the switch (the green goes right through) - should the blue from the wall socket go into the same side as the brown from the wall socket, or do they cross over for some reason?
I assume that is the case, the blue and brown from the wall socket into the 1 and 3 position and the wires going to the motor into the 2 and 4 position?

Second question - I have a Nova 3000 with belt adjusting speed - I would like to change it to electronic variable speed. I attach a picture of the motor specs below.
Can anybody please confirm that on this motor (AC, switch capacitor) I cannot add variable speed controls like a VFD?
If I can get a definitive answer on this, I will get the DC motor and the variable frequency drive (VFD), but until I can rule out using my old motor, I'd like to not spend the bucks (better spent on wood, finishes and other accessories).

Re:switch.
If it's not a latching switch the order NORMALLY won't matter. If it is, the the active or brown should go on the latching side of the switch. If it is a latching switch and you get the order wrong it won't normally latch.

re: VFD
VFDs require a 3 phase AC motor to run. Yours is a single phase motor.

Re switch.
You are correct. Yes the blue from wall socket should go on same side as brown from wall socket as it is a double pole switch, so it switches active and neutral for safety purposes.
