    Default Start capasitor problems

    Hi
Does anyone other than me go through start caps on 3 hp imported 240 volt single phase motors. My saw has blown 2,and today my dusty blew 2 150uf caps. The only spare i had was a 300uf. I put it in anyway and it looks like it is holding. Will this damage the motor?

Much more important than the uF rating is the peak votage rating. It should be at least 400V.

You won't damage the motor but you might get sparks and flames if the voltage rating is low.

Thanks Avery. Caps are 400volt as supplied to me by the retail outlet that sold me my saw with instructions on changing them(relax admin just changing a capistor ) I am more intrested in why they fail. I checked the voltage at the powerpoint (240 to 250 volt) and does not drop when the dusty is started. Checked with my electo who wired the workshop 6 months ago and it's wired to 20 amp specs.
