Triton router or replacement

Hi Everyone,

I currently have a Triton router mounted on a cast iron router table attached to my table saw. I had the idea of drilling a hole in the case iron top to be able to do height adjustments etc from the top rather then fiddling about underneath, I also want to some what enclose the router for better dust/chip collection and extra storage, this to would inhibit access to the router.

my issue arises with the router, turns out it must be the older style one as it doesn't have the inbuilt lift mechanism (though i'm pretty sure the build date says 2004). its a TRA001

so i'm at a bit of cross road with my plans I can either:

A) just keep on using the router as I do now, i don't actually use it as often as I should
B) sell my current router, track down and buy the newer style triton and go with the original plan.
C) sell my current router and purchase something similar with and in built lift or router lift plate.

are there any recommendations for alternatives to the triton that have an inbuilt lift?

Even if you do end up with one that has the micro adjust that can be accessed from above the table you still need to go under the table and release the lock. You shouldn't use the router without the lock engaged as it will slowly unwind itself and lower the router bit.

You can leave one side open and hang a bit of perspex on one screw in an upper corner. The plexi dangles out of your way, and when the extraction is on it just stays in place by suction. You can then access the lock and the switch which has to be off to elevate the bit.

Good luck finding a new TRA001...but every other good option involves even more $$. Oh...and don’t rely on extracting all the dust under the table...use the fence dust port too to prevent plugging the router with dust. It took me two repairs to realise that I was causing my own repair problems.

This is my rough and ready router table. Dust port at back of cabinet. Bits in tall drawer on right, extra stuff on left.
