The weekend pick up.
I guess this is the correct place to post this ! Driving home on Saturday morning I saw a chalkboard sign advertising some woodworking machinery. I called the guy as I was sitting outside and went in and had a look.
The wife was ready to kill me ... but I thought it was a bargain
The shed is looking quite crowded now but I can still move and function in there so its all good !
Bandsaw.jpg 14 inch bandsaw ! Came with a couple of extra blades.
Lathe.jpg Jepson MC900 lathe ! Came with 2 sets of tools. One set is from HSS, beautiful and sharp ... a number of different face plates and chucks.
Scroll-saw.jpg and a little scroll saw !
He even threw in a few pieces of wood for me to play with ... Happy days !

The bandsaw wasnt running true, it was quite crooked, but a bit of fiddling and tightening and loosening of a few screws and bolts and its ALMOST perfect now. I think that the band was twisting slightly and the top wheel was incorrectly angled (only slightly). The lathe runs smoothly and quietly which is nice, the tools are pretty sharp, I need to learn some sharpening skills to get them really nice and sharp. I have NO idea when I would use a scroll saw, but it was part of the package, and it doesnt take up too much space on the shelf.

BS, lathe & SS?
Good score; you've got yourself the start of a nice little turning enterprise there.
I have the same model BS, albeit a different badge, and it has been worked hard over the years with only a few, minor problems. The main 'improvement' I've made was replacing the friction blocks with 3rd-party roller guides to improve the cut accuracy for veneers, etc. Mind you, with thinner blades (eg. <1/4") I still swap back to cool blocks so I don't crush the set of the blade.
...and FWIW, I've used a near identical SS a few times to do "filigree work" around the perimeters of bowls & platters.

''TELL THEM THE PRICE, SON''
But Tim you forgot the most important part of the bargain...
''TELL US THE PRICE, SON''
OR is that why your wife nearly killed you???

Tim you must never look at tools as being either a bargain, fair or overpriced. They are just essentials
