    Default Ac/dc tig

The cost of a good portable AC/DC TIG machines is around the 4-6k mark depending on options.
There are some Chinese machines 200Amp i think they are for around $1200.00
has anyone taken a punt on trying one of these machines out? I'm very tempted but would like to hear from anyone who has used one for a period of time.

Just a note about cheaper MIG machines people are looking at. One area i think is really important is how the wire feed works. Some machines have 1 driven roller some 2 and some even have 4. if you have used MIG for any period of time they will know the importance of good quality wire feed. When the wire is new and free of any sort of corrosion its not so bad but as the wire sits there for periods wire feed can be a real issue.

I don't have a chinese tig. A friend bought one, and it blew up first time used. They replaced it under warranty, and the next one ok. It does not get a lot of work however.

If it was me I would probably go for a transtig 180 ACDC. They come up regularly on ebay and even this forum for around the one thou mark. You will still get support from CIGWELD, and they will be repairable.

If not planning to do much aluminium then the DC inverters offer a lot more options for you $.

    Hope this helps,

    Steve

Thanks Steve. The Chinese machines seem a little to cheap. But i might go the second hand option.
