    Cool Some aluminum mig welding.

I didn't build these alum trailer ramps but i did seal weld the ends after they were shortened a few inches. I have a Miller MM185 mig welder with a 3035 spoolgun setup. Nice little 5 minute job. I ran downhills on them...Bob

Excellent to be able to do that yourself. Looks like a good job done..

I'll have to look into what is involved in fitting a spool gun to my machine.

    Hi,
A question? Your sheilding gas.Is helium part of the the mix?
The deposited weld bead looks hot -as it should be - which is often not easy to get with a straight argon sheild.

It was just straight Argon. I know some use Ar/He mix for thicker alum...Bob

    Cool Todays welding.

My buddies motor bike mirror got broke as well as a Kohler cast alum tractor engine cracked. Heated up the block to burn out the oil and mig welded it. The mirror just needed the powder coating burned off...Bob

Hi Bob - just wondering with the engine block - apart from burning off the oil did you need prepare the crack prior to welding? Cheers - Mick

No i just heated and welded. I wanted the owner to tear down the engine and soak it in some cleaner but he just removed the side cover. I could see inside. The worst prob is there were more cracks in other areas and when i heated they showed up...Bob
