Auto Welding Helmet opinions...
I'm looking at picking up the following in the next 24hrs or so http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....ayphotohosting or http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=140314034721
Anyone have anything bad to say about it. Specs look ok with adjustable din and fast response time. 1yr warranty. Price is right for me. I'm just a hobbyist so it's not going to be used everyday. Probably pulled out a couple times a year at best so don't need anything too heavy duty/deluxe. Certainly looks much better than the unit big B sell for ~$80-$90.
Anyway look forward to hearing any comments. Prefer them to be posted before 24 hrs is up to aid me in purchase but I guess even after that it's still good for others searching.
TIA!

G'day ,
I have two such helmets, one bought off ebay, and one from a local tool shop.
The two you posted seem the usual standard that's available, without paying big bucks.
With both of mine, I found that the set-up of the "control" pot is the relevant issue.
Like when does it darken, and by how much.
Takes a few goes to get 'em right.....and fresh batteries are a good idea for regular use.
I don't know anything about Din standards or whatever.....just if you arc up....and it darkens......its doing its job.
Others may know more speccy details.
Sorry, forgot to say...both of mine are plain.....no flame decal or anything.......couldn't stand the laughter.

Yeh that one looks aesthetically good too. From a technical standpoint they seem ok to me. I like the variable din setting. I assume a range of 9-13 should be fine right for arc/mig welding in general?
Edit:If I read those tables right that seem to come on the box I should be fine with din 12 for up to 250A for arc/mig (I won't be going any more than this) and 13 for tig which will unlikely be something I'll ever do.

If looks are anything to go by, looks fine by me.

I will never be the person who has everything, not when someone keeps inventing so much cool new stuff to buy.
From an early age my father taught me to wear welding gloves . "Its not to protect your hands son, its to put out the fire when u set yourself alight".

Helmet is probably bought, but why wouldn't you just buy a CIG one like this one: http://dandygas.com.au/products/cat/...ectronicHelmet which looks identical to ebay ones and the last one I bought end of last year the CIG shop price was within $5 anyway. After postage ebay isn't always cheaper . . . although I use it when it clearly is.

I was in the area so it was a pickup anyway otherwise I probably wouldn't of bothered. I realise ebay isn't always cheaper. Unfortunately Sydney gets rip-off prices compared to elsewhere.. I'm sure I might of been able to hunt down a price 30km drive from where I never am but false economy. It was kind of just luck that my mate's bday was held near there only 5 minutes drive away in the same week I was looking for a helmet..

Pretty basic welding helmet, not bad for 90$. The specs are good for welding.
