I used to work for a company that built asco type huts, they also had a section producing steel beams, I was always quite amazed to see the stick welders using 5/16 rods all day they would come out with their heavy chome leather jackets dripping with perspiration

Hi Lou, working like that is commendable, but what really deserves a medal is enduring the Melbourne Bitter - that's the tough bit ! Cheers - Mick

I don't need to have a heavy jacket to drip with sweat.

Those where the days 70's & 80's when I had a 27" waist mid summer and welding bus and coach frames.

Now its 36" waist and sitting ifront of a computer and sweating in shorts and T-shirt.

I was out on the brush cutter quite a bit yesterday, seriously not all that hot and there was a bit of a brease.... but I managed to saturate two shirts such that they could be rung out.

I worked in an insulated cieling once in summer installing a hearing loop...yeh the insulation kept the heat IN...it was a case of 15 to 20 minutes in the cieling till I started feeling a bit light headed, then sit under the fan for 10 minutes with cold water.

Seriously this heat can be dangerous, it is appearing in lots of risk assements and is a particular issue in confined spaces....serioulsy chaps it can kill ya.

A mate of mine's old man had a handshake like a vice at 85 and could swing a shovel or a pick with a 30 year old and leave em puffinf & wheasing.....fit and healthy with a proven good heart..... but he worked a little bit too long out in the heat in the garden one day.....he had a heart attack and a stroke...he didn't last long after that..... the doctors said no question heat induced.

A very fit strong young mate of mine was on an army exercise, when he colapsed from heat exhaustion, he was a week in hospital, if not for good prompt first aid and hospital treatment, he would have been dead.

Serioulsy chaps, don't take the heat lightly, keep the fluids up and take the time too cool down.

And the older you are the less your body can tolerate and recover.

    Be carefull in the heat.

    cheers

Abrasives can be just as dangerous as a blade.....and 10 times more painfull.
