Thread: Bob the Welder

Following advice given received in my other thread regarding el cheapo welding rods ( https://www.woodworkforums.com/f160/el-cheapo-welding-rods-74623 ), I visited the website of Bob the Welder ( http://www.bobthewelder.com.au ) and ordered three 2kg packs of Gemini welding rods. This is the brand that he sells in the small sizes and which are much cheaper than anything I had seen in a physical shop even with the inclusion of delivery charges for sending the six kgs of rods from Ballina to Brisbane.


That was on Friday. On Monday morning (yesterday) I received a nicely written upbeat email from Bob the Welder telling me that my welding rods had been dispatched in two packages and that I should expect to see them in the next few days and wishing me good luck with my welding.


Bugga me but at lunchtime on the very same day, a knock at my door signals the delivery of one of those two packages already. This package contained two packets of the three packets of rods ordered. They arrived very well protected in layers of bubble wrap.


I have bought many things over the internet ranging from digital measuring tools from Rockler in the USA to fishing equipment from Cabelas in the USA and computers and iPods from Apple in Australia but I would never have thought it worthwhile buying low value but high weight items like welding rods from Ballina in northern NSW. I was wrong!


I am delighted with the price, speed of delivery, the convenience and the friendly tone with which this simple transaction was conducted. I have yet to use the rods but infer from this site's resident welding expert Grahame Collins' comment in my other thread that this brand of rods must be of a "half decent" quality, something that was suggested by another user of them in that thread also.


So "Well done!" to Bob the Welder. A very impressive retail performance and one that, based on the evidence from my first transaction with them, I am pleased to recommend.
