Cheaper gas?
Hi All,
I have a SIP gas/gasless MIG.
Like most I know I shudder at the cost of gas bottle rental.
I once heard that it is possible to use those small disposable bottles for gas welding.
Is that true?
Has anyone tried it?

When I bought my MIG (many years ago), it came with a small disposable gas cylinder. Worked OK, but didn't last very long, so I eventually rented a normal cylinder.
It wasn't a SIP, though.
Cheers,
Andrew

I can't even afford a SIP gas/gasless MIG.
Capitalist (refering to the SIP & MIG so as not to offend)

Is it really cheaper Gas ?
Yup ! It's me again
Well fellas , you get what you pay for.
Most disposable gas containers are low pressure jumped up flyspray cans.
The quantity of contents, the shielding gas , is questionable at best. I am unaware of the exact figure but estimate they run around 15 to 20 PSI. Figures have are not readily available re ther content purity.
The gas you are complaining about the cost of, has a purity of 99.99%
Commercial re useable shielding gas cylinders are rated up to
2000 PSI and even the smallest has many times the volume of your average flyspray can. A cylinder may have 500 times the gas volume of a spray can.
You really need to compare apples to apples.
This is what you should do your costings on. If you are looking to make savings compare the cost of rental of one company against the next. Linde , one of the original companies in developing the process now has a presence in Australia. Begin your enquiries there , perhaps.
