    Default CO2 with TIG Welding????

I was just reading another thread about using CO2 with a MIG welder, and it reminded me I still own a 9kg CO2 bottle from my home brewing days. As I am also in the process of looking at Stick/TIG/Plasma units, I would like to know if I can use CO2 with a TIG.

I don't do much welding in my model making hobby, and can't really justify the exhorbitant rental on a bottle from BOC/Airliquide etc.

Any thought or experiences from anybody who has tried it or knows what is required would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Ned

Straight Argon or Argon/Helium are normally the gases used for TIG. CO2 won't work, sorry.
    Cheers.

    Vernon.

here's a guy that tried it: TIG with C25 Argon/CO2... Not so Good! - WeldingWeb™ - Welding forum for pros and enthusiasts
and that's only 25% CO2. You might as well just use nothing.

Thanks Mick - couldn't be more graphic than your link.

Thanks also Vernon for your reply.

Well I guess my question has been well and truly answered.

As an aside, I don't know how these larger companies can justify the rental they charge for gas bottles!!!!!!!!!!!! (but then again, I suppose I do - it's called profit)
