The Ducks Guts For Cleaning Welding Visors
Gidday
Dont know about U blokes but over the years ive struggled to keep Welding Visors clean n always end up forking out a small fortune on consumables.
Ive tried everything from spit, windex, soapy water, bla bla bla the list goes on................................
My Head can of choice is the Miller Elite thats well known for its great viewing field. BUT whats less known is how much u can end up spending on replacement visors when your laying down miles of Weld for the Boss!!!!!
Recently I came across a real Gem here:
MIG WELDING - Mig welding techniques for high end metal fabrication. MIG Welding TIG Welding Tube Work Plate Work
Its a plastic polish called Novus Fine Scratch remover No:2 and is bar none the best thing ive come across for keeping welding visors clean! Im getting at the very least 3-5 times longer out of visors..............
Picked it up at my local novus window repair joint...............not cheap But the medium sized bottle should last years!
Highly recommended!................ This stuff is the Ducks Guts for keeping welding visors Clean!

I have ducks. Will their guts do the same job? Worth it to get rid of a few mouths. Usually use my hanky but only a hobby and hobby farm to run LOL.

You could also use brasso a mild abrasive metal polish on a soft cloth not paper tissues as this can scratch, great for polishing cd's,dvd's,phone screens ipod's

Just remember, once polished with any type of abrasive i.e. Brasso etc, a face sheild no longer complies with AS133.7.1992

Is that why I wear a face shield when welding? Glad I found that out! So no suing the manufacture when you suffer injury then. I have never bought a replacement clear protective cover, let alone a shielding lens. Just for interest what does a clear auto shielding type lens cover cost to replace? I got a CIG auto shield and I think it came with a spare which I haven't used yet. I presume they are just a polycarb sheet?
We did a UV safe session at work last year regarding sun protection mainly but the instructor mentioned that you should wear safety glasses under your welding shield to protect your eyes from UV light given off by welding. After the event (of course) I realised that all shields have a clear lens in front of the shielding lens to protect the shielding lens from damage. This is made from polycarb, the same stuff as safety glasses.
I know you cannot be too careful and all that but sometimes with all the dirt on all the lenses it is hard to see at all. At some point you need to say enough. I do still wear safety glasses underneath so when I flip up the shield I am covered. When I clean all the lenses I go and cancel the appointment with the optometrist LOL.
