Flaring From MIG Torch - Why & How to stop it?
Hi guys,
I've had my Migatronic 180A for many years now but recently it has started to flare from the shroud when the trigger is released.
During a constant weld run there is no issue but if pulsing the trigger on thin material it becomes unuseable. The flaring lasts for maybe 2 or 3 secs after letting go of the trigger.
Any ideas ......
I pulled the liner out last night. It is a steel liner with a plastic cover. It isn't kinked or split but the torch end has no plastic cover for the last 750mm. Would this matter?
Cheers

I am not sure what you mean by flaring.
Is it that the gas shield continues for this time period after trigger release.
Many machines have this feature to avoid oxidisation at the end of the bead, if so check the post weld gas flow or is the problem different from that.
Is it that the energised wire continues to exit the shroud and create a problem.
In this case, I would be checking the burn back control dial.
Some of the rotary dial controls click off at one end of the stitch rotation which may appear off when in fact it is actually on. It is easy to have somebody move that unbeknown to you and cause such a problem.

Hi Graham, Thanks for the reply.
The 'flare' is similar to a flame - bright white illumination at the end of the nozzle/shroud.
The wire is not feeding, is not energised either but as you say, the shield gas is flowing (argo light).
I'm not sure if l have that setting. Either way, l've never adjusted it if l have.
My Mig isn't used by anybody else either as it's at home.
Thanks
