Hello to everyone, I have just purchased one of the el cheapo migs off ebay and am awaiting it's arrival. I am jus wondering what gas would be most suitable for the general welding jobs around the house, box trailer that sort of thing, I understand that I can use Argon or co2 or a combination of the two??

    Hi Stewart,
    Welcome to the mob.

An Argon /Co2 /Oxygen mix is what is used as a shielding gas.

    Hi Graham

Which gas would be most suitable for welding mild steel such as my box trailer,
Argon or Co2 or a mixture of both ???

    Neither.
What you are looking for to suit the mig is a Argoshileld mix containing all 3 gases, Argon CO2 and Oxygen.

As a singular bottled gas,Argon is a Tig process sheilding gas ,while Co2 is used in industry for heavy duty, high deposition gas sheild cover.

Basically argon is far too cold for your needs ,while Co2 will be too hot.

Argoshield ( the Boc product) is available in a number of percentage ratios to suit the particular application. Linde and Air liquide are other suppliers who will have their own designations. Tell the vendor what you have and what you want to weld and they will supply the best blend.
