Help! Looking at portable MIG to do light fabrication
Hi all. I would really appreciate some help from you experienced welders out there. I run a small locksmith business and am currently looking at purchasing a welder to do on site repairs. It will be predominately used for light fabrication, maximum 6mm mild steel and filling in holes we drill through 6mm-13mm mild steel.. I'm looking to spend between 1k-1.5k on a single phase machine. I'm hoping it will be compact enough to lift into the back of my ute or van with just one person. At this stage I haven't had any need to weld aluminium or stainless but it may come in handy down the track. Any advice on brands of welders would be greatly appreciated.

For the money you have to spend the Lincoln 180 may suit.

I'm pretty happy so far with this unit:
Uni-Mig - Suppliers of Mig Welder, Tig Welder, Plasma Cutters, Gas Cutting Equipment, supplies and parts for your welding machines
Allows you the option to do stick if needed. I paid about $860 for it from a local shop.

Lincoln 180
Just went down and purchased a Lincoln 180C this morning.. I've set it up with the gasless wire and had a few test runs. I'm very suprised with how much grunt it has, even when welding the thicker materials.. I paid $1050.00 + GST for mine which seems a little higher than average, but couldn't justify driving an hour just to save a few bucks.. Thanks again for all your help guys!
