Default Heres why not to let oxy welding become a lost art!

    Gidday

This guy makes it look all to easy BUT believe me to weld like this takes a high level of skill!

Doesn't take long to work out that oxy (flame welding) still has its place..............Heres hoping that it dosent become a lost Art!

Good video I have never used oxy to weld aluminium, so I can,t compare my skills, but I recon I would give him a run for his money on steel

    Nice job,
I would be too worried about forgetting that I'm holding a flaming torch and going for a quick scratch and setting myself on fire

I have tried oxy welding aluminum numerous times with my Cobra/Dillion torch but have never had any luck at all. Tried all sorts of fluxes and all it does is push the aluminum apart. Can run a puddle on flat sheet and it looks good but try to join two sheets together and not a hope in hell.

That is very impressive that video. Very jealous.

    Cheers

Quite impressed by the relative lack of distortion after welding. Also noted the use of an oxidising flame which is a little surprising.
I would pass the comment that the weld was on 3003 aluminium using 1100 filler wire, both of which are soft as the proverbial so it was no surprise that they did not crack, (most commercial ally is 5XXX series and somewhat harder).
Oxy welding certainly does have it's place although I would suggest that it lays more in the carbon steel field than either ally or stainless.
