Why? Because it's too easy. It's like what MIG was to stick when it first came out. But laser welding is even easier than MIG. You don't have to float the gun above the work piece; instead, you have the gun tip in full contact with the work and drag it along. You don't have to worry about travel speed because the wire is pushing your hand back at the speed it wants you to go. All you have to worry about is your travel angle and your work angle. Being that you're in full contact with the material, it makes it even easier to maintain your angle. Weld appearance is excellent with practically no effort. No spatter at all. Very little heat input and very little light given off compared to MIG. You can weld bare handed and all you need are some special UV sunglasses. You don't even need a welding helmet. What I'm worried about is it's going to cheapen our trade. Everybody will be able to do it. Wages are going to plummet. It's not much different than running a glue gun across cardboard. The only thing we got going for ourselves right now are the price of the machines, but once they figure out a way to make them less costly, all the manufacturers and businesses with be switching over.
