Question Lanthanated tungstens for ac/dc tig inverters

    HI ALL,
I have a Tokentools Alupulse 200 AC/DC Tig Welder that I have been using 2.4mm 2% Ceriated Tungstens on. I have just been watching this Video [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpanERwagaU&feature=player_embedded"]Tungsten Electrodes - 2% lanthanated vs the rest...pure,ceriated,thoriated, and zirconiated - YouTube[/ame] . As a result of watching the Video I found out that the 2% Lanthanated Tungstens are supposed to be much better than the 2% Ceriated. Has anyone used the 2% Lanthanated ?, or perhaps You have tried both Types ?. I am just wondering what Everyones opinion is of the 2% lanthanated Tungsten Electrode. I was going to Buy some to Try, but I thought I would ask about them on this Forum first.
    Thanks in advance.

I watched that video with interest when it came out... I'd been using 1.5% lanthanated (gold) ones for a while, so the next batch I tried after seeing the video were the 2% (blue) ones... I didn't do any exhaustive testing, but I can confidently say that I couldn't tell them apart - even more so now that the coloured bands have worn off

I use the 1.6mm and 2.4mm sizes on steel, stainless and aluminium regularly. Admittedly I rarely have a need to go over 160 amps - so maybe there would be a difference at the higher end. (My machine is also a 200amp TT).

The one thing I like with these tungstens is that you can hold a reasonably sharp tip welding with AC without fear of losing bits of tungsten into the weld.

    Cheers

    - Mick
