Lincoln Powermig 180C
Hi im looking at byuing a mig welder first i was looking at the CIG transmig 200 (transsformer type), or possibly the Transmig175i because it also has a stick welder too.
i only need it for odd jobs at home and for light car body repairs at home.
then for about the same price i found the Lincoln Powermig 180C i read good things about this one, and wondering what peoples opinions were beween these machines.
Also wondering if the Spot imer control is something useful, whats it used for?
Cheers Mario

I think teh spot timer is used for tack welding basically. If its what I think it is, it allows you to set the welder to cut out after a second or two after pulling the trigger.
I've seen people (on the internet) using this when welding thin steel. pull the trigger, spot weld, move gun slightly, pull trigger, etc.....
Do any of the welders you've quoted have that feature? I didn't see it, but then again, i didn't search exhaustively
I'm thinking about getting a mig at the moment, and the Lincoln is whats tempting me the most. I have seen other welders though, the bigger, non portable ones (mostly from unimig) for just a little bit more, which seem to have better duty cycles, and Im just not sure what to go for.
The portability is starting to draw me back though.

....Or this and the price looks good...But, when did it appear and where does it fit in the world of MIG welding? Doesn't appear to be in Oz yet though. I want one!

I have the Lincoln 180C and its quite good. Compared to my previous Awelco MIG 120, it is fantastic!
Still, it is US designed and specced so it isn't quite Euro quality (a littlle bit of that usual american bubblegum feeling). If I could turn back the clock, I'd go the Kemppi or perhaps an ESAB.

You can get the 180 Kemppi for ~$1500 plus GST if you shop around.
