Mig welder problems heat control
Hi Guys First timer here i'm a carpenter from melbourne,
Ive bought a Second hand mig welder Euromig 180
I am having some problems with the heat control switch knob. The power ranges from 1-6 on the dial but the mig will only arc on settings 2 and 4 the others don't seem to work also the dial is hard to turn and is hard to get onto some settings.
Can anyone help me with what causes this and whats can be done like will it need a new heat control dial.
I'm running .9mm gassless wire.
Thanks

Hi Chippy ,
The 6 way switch selects different taps from the step down transformer. It is less likely that the various windings (aka taps) are burnt out. I would check that the switch is not broken. These types of switches can be purchased from your electrical wholesaler. You may not get an exact type but something similar will do the job as long as it has as many poles and selections as the original. Also it may be prudent to pull the switch apart and rebuild it as they are generally serviceable if you have the patience.
If you would rather buy one....here is an example cam switch from NHP, link here to PDF file . This may steer you in the right direction.

Thanks pete i'll take out the switch and take it to a wholesaler and get my sparky mate to come help me out fitting it.
I would think its the switch as it sounds like something is broken when you turn it sometimes and its really really hard to move from some positions especially from 4 up to 5 or 6.
Can anyone give me a guide of what power I should be running it at to weld 2mm tube with .9mm wire.
I'm new to mig welding i've used a arc previously but picked this mig up for 300 which I thought was ok.
Thanks guys
