    Default MIG welder recomendations

Looking for a new MIG was originally looking at getting a CIG Transmig 220 but now not sure becaause of all the other options avaiable. Will be welding mostly mild steel anywhere from 0.6 to 8mm.

    Current options are;

    CIG Transmig 220 $1727
    16 Voltage steps (15.5-24)
    30-220A
    25% dc at 220A
    Trasmig 250 $2090

    WIA Weldmatic 10mm $2420
    9 V Settings
    35-225A
    Unsure if torch included

Lincoln / Uni Mig / Other brands of about the same size.

Have a budget of about $2000-2500.

    Thanks.

For what its worth my opinion is:

On the specs alone the Transmig looks to be the the most cost efficient.
That does it for me would be the 16 voltage steps against the 9 of the WIA.

For the material type and size and size you are welding the 15 amps extra in the output amps means little for an extra .
the smaller of the cig models the 220 will do you well.
Is the extra 15 amps worth several hundred dollars for the WIA model?

Transmigs have a long history of being the premier model in light industry. Save these extra dollars for other goodies.

I have been looking at similar sized welders and have decided on the Unimig 270

    21 voltage steps
    30-250A
    100% at 210A
    $2580 compact
    $3230 seperate wire feeder

The claimed duty cycles for the trade series unimigs seem a lot higher than most other brands... maybe I am just another sucker who believes everything he readds!

Probably worth noting that with these larger single phase welders you will need a higher current powerpoint to use them to there fullest. I can't remember eaxctly but I seem to recall they specify a 25 or 32A outlet on a Transmig 250/Unimig 270 sized machines.
