I have just re-read my last post, I forgot to mention that I did it cold, but it was a close thing.

If it wasn't for the power and versatility of the Triton Superjaws I would have required heat for the tube. As it was the flat plate had the big kink smoothed a bit in the superjaws, then knocked flat with a big hammer.

The tube as mentioned, was filled with dry sand and pressed with the superjaws. If that hadn't worked then heat would have been applied and it would have required coating with something. I did apply some silver coloured metal paint, to a few of the cracks that appeared in a couple of places.

It is an Aldi paint for metal that can be applied over rust, not really over rust, as we all know, but obviously over surface rust. I have this in Silver and Black in one litre tins. It's made in Germany and I have seen the parent product in Germany this year at the sister in-laws place.

The product was suggested to me as one of the best products on the market, as in, it's ability to actually cover mild surface rust, seal the whole and remain sealed for many years. This was from the son of my sister in-law who has a doctorate in chemistry and works in Switzerland for possibly the largest chemical company in the world (German). He specalises in industrial chemistry products and in a former place of work, his job was leading the team in the formation of protective products for many applications, one of which was covering bare metal to protect it from the elements in salt water using a paint brush at worst or spray gun at best.

The Aldi product is $8.00 a litre in Australia.

Going into a German hardware store with him is interesting when in the paint section. He can pretty much tell what product should work very well, not so well and don't even think of purchasing it.

Hi Mick, can you post the name of the product and perhaps a photo of the tin. Aldi is notoriously unreliable in keeping stock. I am still waiting for the hand wash paste made in Germany with lemon scent to ever come back. It was the best of the best. I bought a box full last time around but that was 2 years ago and I run out...

I can vouch for that Aldi metal paint that Optimark mentioned. I have a veranda railing that had been almost impossible to keep paint on no matter how much preparation I gave it. I painted it with the Aldi metal paint a couple of years ago and it still looks as good as the day I put it on. I will be at the door first thing if they ever have it again.

Marc, I will take a photo of the paint tins, but in reality you will just have to await for Aldi to have their metal paint on sale again. These current tins are the second metal paints I have picked up from Aldi.

Their other paints are pretty damn good as well, as is their gel like clear floor product. That was something else again, I couldn't mix it up and when I swirled a piece of timber through the paint (lacquer as the Germans call paint) it was like swirling through aeroplane jelly that hadn't set yet. They call it splatter free or splash free paint, it certainly is.

As for the yellow tubes of hand cleaner, I have the original bought in Germany as well as the same product but with Aldi's name on it bought from Aldi in Australia and also once from Aldi in Germany. I'll take a picture of those as well.

Will be a couple of days before I can do anything, maybe. Tomorrow, hopefully a new computer. If it is business as usual, it will be a day or so before I have all my programmes on and that kind of stuff. Currently running on a computer cobbled together from bits and pieces for a grand total of $60; slow is not the word, think snail.

Hopefully the pictures I have taken will upload.

The pictures are of the hand cleaner, one tube purchased in Germany, the other purchased from Aldi in Australia, the German Aldi tube has gone to tube heaven. You will note on the rear of the German purchased one the manufacturer and their address. That address is Avenarius.de but eventually to another physical description on that Avenarius site that I believe may be the actual paint (Lack) Holz- und Bautenschutzprodukte GmbH

With the paint tins, on the reverse of one of them was a website for more explanations, not sure if it's an Aldi Germany site or the actual manufacturers site in Germany, could be worth a look.

That address is Avenarius.de but eventually to another physical description on that Avenarius site that I believe may be the actual paint (Lack) manufacturer itself is Holz- und Bautenschutzprodukte GmbH.

Marc, I've just returned from Aldi and perusing their latest catalogue, page 16, for Saturday the 13th of September, this paint is on sale again!
