    Default Plasma Cutter add-on

    Gday
I own a token tools 200 amp ac/dc tig and this unit looks identical to the 4 in 1's sold on ebay it looks like my unit could also be used as a plasma cutter with the addition of a plasma torch and air regulator .
    Any thoughts

If your receipt says you bought and paid for an AC/DC tig thats what you got.

Your welder case may look identical to plasma unit, but I'll bet the innards don,t

You can add the extras, but you will still have a Tig unit.

    Gday
I have done further investigation and it appear's you are correct the unit i have is identical externally to the ebay unit except for a three position switch on left hand side, the gas solenoid is used for the compressed air which i thought it may work
from what i've read plasma needs a much higher voltage to operate.obviously it would need a different board to generate the high voltage

This is a point I have been trying to make a number of times with my rantings about chinese welders. The boxes may seem identical, because they are. Its what goes inside them that changes from factory to factory and from brand to brand.

You can do this yourself when you build a PC at the local computer fair. By choosing my own memory, CPU, and CD drive I could build a PC for $500 or I could build one for $3000. Both of these PCs could be housed in the same case and for all intents and purposes they look identical but they arent.

Its the same with these welders you see. Check the specs to make sure your getting what you want.

    Gday
I spoke to pete at token tools and he told me that they are basically the same machine except for a different winding on the transformer for the higher voltage and a extra ceramic connection on the front panel but he did say the labour for him to do it would cost more than a 4 in 1 ready built
    thanks caveman
