Default Plasma cutters and oxy -- any comparison??

    G'day fellas .
Plasma cutters and oxy -- any comparison? I've only ever used oxy /acetylene and oxy/lpg , never even seen a plasma cutter in action .

Are they similar , better , a lot better , 10 times better, or no comparison , another class altogether ??

    thanks Mat

In general the plasma does a much neater cut, smaller kerf with little burr on the underside. A well setup oxy in the hands of an experienced operator should have little cleaning up to do either! They can cut through thicker steel than a small plasma, but produce more localised heat. Therefore thinner or sheet metal is better cut with a plasma...in fact, you can DRAW with a plasma in sheet metal, loads of fun!!
To my mind the big advantage of the plasma is they can cut through various metals besides steel (like aluminium, copper, stainless steel) which an oxy can't.
On the plus side of an oxy of course, is the ability to weld, braze, and heat.

    Cheers,
