    Thumbs up

Brilliant! Instead of my graduated safety specs, I tried my single focus reading specs. What a difference! The welding is still crap, but now I can see why!

Today I laid down weld beads like I've never done before.

    What did I do?

    I purchased an new helmet.

This will sound stupid but I purchased a new helmet last August when I got my MIG. It works well and is of very good quality and is Swiss made.

As it was good I decided to not use for stick, but my stick helmet (an older Tachman) broke so I needed a new helmet.

Yesterday I went to ALdi's to buy a carbide hole saw set and they were sold out.

What they did have was helmets for $29.99 marked down from $49.99. Scary cheap but when I pulled the helment form the box (in the shop) I noticed it has more adjustments on it than my current helmet.

I can adjust the flash speed down to 1/25,000sec which is what it will stay at and the lens sensitivity plus the lens darkness. Plus you can adjust the height of the helmet in relationship to the headband.

I'm sold on the helmet and have relegated my 6 month old one to the stick welder.

I was gobsmacked how well it works and how it has transformed my welding.

    I happy Vegemite!

Zuffen, just like all the other posts, I have experienced all the same problems. Found 2 ways to fix it, bought a welders pencil and it gives you a line you can see, and I have a 150watt floodlight focused on the work and to stop the back reflection on my glasses and helmet lens I added a large flap of upholstry vinyl to the top of my helmet. This also has the advantage of stopping any hot sparks hitting my bald scalp.
    regards,
    Crocy.
