    Default TIG - Gas Lenses

The write-ups for gas lenses used in a TIG torch espouse how they improve gas coverage of the weld, reduce gas consumption etc etc - so why would you NOT use a gas lens all the time if they are so beneficial? Just wondering......

Well... I leave them on 99.9% of the time and only take it off when the size of the cup is restrictive in a tight (acute) fillet.
Only other reason I can think of the take it off is that the little diffuser screen inside the nozzle can get gunk buildup if you contaminate the the tungsten - so you have to replace them every so often - at greater cost than a normal diffuser.
Probably the main reason a gas lens stays on my torch is pure laziness
