    Hi Captain,
    Thats a little ripper.
Nice job on the mods and I like the colour.
Is it ford engine blue ?I have 4 litres of it to paint my stuff at home with.I reckon its an attractive colour for work shop stuff.

    Well done

    Gday Grahame

I priced new 10 mm plate and got a real shock when the guy told me 1000 bucks so i thought maybe i could buy some second grade plate got a price on that for 500 bucks still a little above what i wanted to spend then i saw this little beauty on ebay i snapped it up.
The 3 mm sheet for the sides cost me 120 bucks so all up it cost me 310 bucks plus a bit of gas and a few stick electrodes and some nice blue paint .
    Thanks for the compliment Grahame

I think I will scrap the Stainless top, I was just not sure about the contamination issue with aluminium welding.I also picked up a piece of copper for backing 450 x 300 x 3mm for $27.00 plus a charge of $3.00 for cutting which I thought wasn't to bad.
As for the size of the bench captain caveman, your's is great but I already have a big lock up welding bench, I was just after a small sit down Tig specific one.

if you wanted a stainless benchtop, hit up a couple of bakeries in your vincinity
thats if they wanna chuck it, some have big dents and holes, but should be ok if, again, your not working for nasa

i just picked up an 800 X 1000mm bench all made of food grade stainless steel

    for absolutley nothing

    $0

    nil

"What does he use the massive copper backing plate for though? I'm not really seeing where it would be appropriate. It's like buying a big block of ice to put in your drink: you could do it but you wouldn't usually."

I dunno edster, he doesnt use it in the video I have seen.

Fabricator - nice work on the stainless, youll love it.
