My Kemppi all good to go complete with heavy-duty extension cable that connects to a dedicated outlet.

Not deliberate but it all turned out to be nicely colour coded too!

    Cheers

    Justin,

Great to see someone that has a decent extension cord for welding. Too many people these days think a 15 amp Bunnings lead is good for welding. I like your welding setup, you must be very proud.

    Regards

I'll admit to not always doing the right thing when it comes to 15 amp plugs but after reading the thread on this forum about 15 amp plugs I sat down and had a really good think about it.

We had a dedicated welding outlet fitted when the shed was built as I was going to get a 240 amp single phase arc welder. (many years ago)

So decided to use this outlet with heavy duty extension lead that is long enough to be used throughout the shed but not too long to be cumbersome.

I used Clipsal weather proof heavy duty plugs to join welder to extension cable. Screws together for a secure joint. Really nicely made I might add.

Cable on the welder was 2.5mm2 and the extension is the same rating. Dedicated outlet I'm not 100% sure of it's size but it's 4mm2 plus. Cable to the shed from meter box is one step bigger than technically required.

Welding trolley is the next project.

    Cheers

Well finally ran my first welds today with the Kemppi.

OMG! (I don't normally use that phrase I might add!)

    It's sensational!

Tried to make it hard for myself by welding 1.2mm SS.

It's got some grunt. When set on 1.2mm that means full penetration and I mean full. Had to dial it back a bit. But the beauty is you can get really flat welds if required.

I'm not using proper stainless gas but the welds are very neat for a first go. I'll pickle them later on.

I was wanting to make my welding trolley out of stainless but was a bit nervous but after this little test run I have the confidence.

    Cheers

    Justin
