Default Is my torch installed properly

    Hi everyone,

Picked up my Cigweld transmig 165 and it has next to no instructions.

My concern at this point is the torch installation. Where the wire feeds into the torch looks to be hitting the feed rollers. Is this right (refer pics).

    Any ideas?

Did you install it or is that factory.
When the wire is running through the Guide is it entering the liner with a little clearance between the guide and liner,(in other words is it sitting in the groove and going into the liner or is the liner causing the wire to not feed through the guide, the liner should not be touching the guide.)
When you drop your tensioner down is it clear of the liner or is it touching it.
Is there another set of guide rollers, those appear to have serations on them, which I think would be more suited to Gasless and Aluminium.
If you have fitted the liner it may need to be adjusted in the hand piece .

    Thanks for the reply.

I installed the torch myself. I haven't tried running wire through it yet as I was unsure if I was right.

It just seems like there is too much spring sticking out. In a cigweld video I saw on you tube it only had about three coils from where it enters the brass bit to the torch, but mine seems to have a dozen.

Also vid on youtube showed it to stop just short of the rollers.

Now if I slacken the nut and pull it forward it would be loose and when I tighten it just pulls back through again to touch the rollers.

How would I manually tighten this or should I cut some spring off?

    HI,
The Spring is to close to the Feed Rollers, it should not touch them (neither of the guides should touch the rollers). If the Spring is creeping back as You said when You tighten it up, You will probably need to Cut some of it off. I don't know how You are Tightening the assembly up, but have You tried just nipping the Small Brass nut (sleeve nut) up and then tightening up the big silver nut right up, then tighten the small brass nut up the rest of the way ?.
The Knurled Feed Rollers that You have on Your Machine are used for Gasless Wire only. You use a 'U' Groove Roller for Aluminium, I don't know why Pipeclay was Saying Aluminium as well as Gasless Wire ?. It looks like Your Welder might be Gasless only anyway. I judge that by the fact the fitting for the Gas Hose in the 1st and 2nd Pictures has no Gas Hose on it. Good Luck with it.

Yep have tightened up sleeve nut but no go.Only thing that I just thought of id that the chrome nut is meant to go on the side closer to the gas nipple, then you could tighten and adjust distance?

Yeah unit is gas only, with gas option, which would include changing roller.

Thanks for all your help guys. I ended up just nipping the end off so the fit now looks right.

Will run wire through it tomorrow.

    Hey guys,

    Still setting up have two questions;

    - The mig has come with 0.9 wire. The closest tip supplied I can find is 1mm. Is this tip ok to use or should i buy some 0.9 / 0.35" tips?

-Also when feeding the wire for the first time the mig will be on. Whats stopping it from arcing up? Will it just feed wire without the earth being connected?
There is an off on the wire speed controller but not the voltage selector.

Thanks guys, once this is done I will give it a shot during the week.

    Regards,

    Rohin

Hello Rohin, 1mm is OK, and if you're concerned about running the wire through with the earth connected then you can disconnect it. Most people don't worry too much, because unless you're close to earthed metal there are no dramas.
