    Default E versus G argon cylinder pricing

    Guy's, it's argon refill time for me again. I've seem to go through about three E sized cylinders a year, so I thought I'd see if going for the larger G size would be of any benefit. The table has the comparison.

    It works out that over 2 years I would use 6x E bottles ($1250 incl refills and rental), or a bit less than 3x G bottles ($1159). So G sized would be cheaper (about 12% less per volume of gas at my usage rate). Also there's less trips to go and collect refills. However, I'm going to stick with E simply for portability factor.

    Your paying way too much for a G size refill, i pay $111 for a refill of argon with Core gas and my rental is 42.50 a quarter

    Yeah I don't doubt it. Unfortunately distributors are pretty thin on the ground where I am (Ballina northern NSW) - happy to hear any suggestions. Cheers - Mick

    The coregas G size bottle holds 9.4 cubic meters vs 8.3 cubic meters which gives you a little more gas for your money, i understand that you may pay more money up there in ballina due to transport or lack of competition but give em a ring and tell them the price people in sydney are getting it for and see how ya go.

    Well Capt'n thanks for the tip.

    My E bottle ran out today, and my rental was within days of being renewed - so that got returned to my old supplier... who'll probably not see me again.

    I now have a G size bottle sitting in the workshop. It turns out that a local distributorship got sorted out for coregas just a few days ago and they got their first couple of cylinders delivered yesterday. It seems I'm their first customer. Still costing me more than you (are you a volume customer?) at $183 for a 10.5m3 refill), but this move is going to knock about 30% off my gas bill. Yep, that capacity is right - seems there's quite a few G sizes out there. Pressure is 20,000kpa

    I went with G size as the rental was exactly the same as the E size, and refills were only fractionally more.

    glad i read this page, just found a supplier local to me in brisbane. will be going there tomorrow looking for some cost savings. i have 4 bottles rented and costs a fortune each year

    I checked my bottle today and mine is also 10.5m3 the last was 9.4m3 and no i'm not a volume user only a couple of bottles a year.
