    Default Welding Alloy

While trying to remove the temp sender on SWSBOs 88 Camira I cracked and then snapped in half the thermostat housing.
I'm wondering if it can be welded while still being in the car
I think its cast Aluminum Alloy but not sure (How do I tell).
Yes I can go to the wreckers and get an other one but its a real **** to remove and install.
Has anyone had any success with products like Liquid steel.
How do I weld/glue it (If its possible)

I'd say you are schit out of luck trying to repair it on the car.

No good using plastic metal or any similar product. The only possible repair would be welding........BUT ...... I don't think you'll have much luck repairing it in place, so you will have to take it off anyway.
Usually thermostat housings aren't very expensive so I reckon just put a new one on.
    Good luck

Thermostat housings are a consumable part in a car cooling system . I am sure they are designed like this to allow a cheap sacrificial corroding anode part to be easily and cheaply replaced.

Go to your local radiator works. The cost of a new one shall be far less than that of the welding repair.

In addition the corrosion /deposits already embedded into the alloy of the housing would not make for an easy repair, in any case.
Even if it was a housing of some rare and expensive piece of automotive exotica I would fab one from scratch .I would not piddle around with something that is almost guaranteed to give one the schitz in as far as degrees of difficulty of welded repair.

Trust me, its not worth your time and effort.

Actually, that's what welsh plugs are for. And it still amazes me to this day why they're now replaced with brass ones.
