    Brendan no need to use stainless steel.

    Will make it over priced for what you are trying to do.

    You just need to use a solid enough section of steel, and as bill indicates with the size of the tip and the recess you have cut there is a large surface area for the loctite to hold the tip in place.

    Loctit will be cheaper and less time consuming than welding in any form.

    Clean the joins thoroughly with Inox chain and brake cleaner before applying the glue.

    Loctite is a good product, one in which I have much faith. Just remember not to overheat the tip when grinding or during use as the strength of loctite degrades rapidly with excess heat.
    For strength and longevity silver brazing would still be my top choice though.
