Welding garden art balls.
Everyone has seen these, scraps of steel welded together to make a ball, I have seen specimens 2m diameter, priced at over $1500!
How do you make them? I was going to try with a metal bowl which is a slice of about a quarter of a sphere, fill it with bits, weld it up, then move it round a bit and weld some more, eventually making a sphere. It seems a good way of using up scraps, and learning to weld, as the welds are all on the inside.
Anyone have any tips?

Just think of all the Bar-B-Q plates you could make out of that gate entrance ball.

I use them for planters, since succulents love growing on rusty steel, just look at the flowers and colours on this beauty!

That does look very nice indeed. Well done. Will not show the missu tho, those discs are hard to find now.

I've made this ball that is about 350mm in diameter. I made a concave 1/2 spherical mould out of plaster, packed it with about 1/2 the tubes and TIGed up the ends. Did the same to make the other half and then silver soldered the two halves together. It's finished with zinc plating.

Lookin' good Blood! I've seen them done in a selection of different sized round tubes, square tube, square and round tube together... and they all look great.
