Welding Stainless to Mild Steel with Arc Welder - Which Rod ?
Hi All,
I've been told l can arc weld mild & stainless but don't know which rod to use?
A mate thinks a stainless rod would work, a mild rod will not. Any clue appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Bad Fruit.
Yes you can weld stainless to mild steel.
Use stainless rods.
How ever it is not considered a good idea.
I am not a qualified welder, I have just been doing it for a long time.
I am sure you will get better, more technical advice from this forum.

yeah use 309 rods- i have used 316L rods in the past and have experienced cracking along the weld bead, which hasn't happened with the 309's
